Armchair Mid Century Chinese Scholar Longevity Deer Carved Wood

Acquire a masterwork of traditional Asian design with this rare mid century scholar armchair. Measuring 39 inches in height, 27 inches in width, and 23 inches in depth, this piece features classic stepped arms and an elegant S-curve back splat that defines the silhouette of this historic form. The chair is distinguished by prominent hand carved medallions integrated into the back, featuring the Shou symbol for longevity and the Lu symbol for the deer. Together, these represent a Double Blessing, making this a significant piece for those who appreciate cultural artifacts with deep symbolic meaning. The chair is expertly constructed from solid wood utilizing traditional mortise and tenon joinery, which provides lasting structural integrity. This is a seasoned pre owned vintage work featuring a unique multi layered lacquer finish. Originally finished in a traditional Chinese red, a later black lacquer wash was applied, creating a rich, dark patina where the vibrant red tones peek through at the wear points. While the structure remains completely sturdy, the finish shows gentle, normal signs of use and age expected with a vintage piece of this era.
