Description

Crafted by artisan hands in the 1970s, this hand-carved onyx chess set carries the rich character and history of a game deeply loved and played across decades. The striking white and black stone pieces are carved in the likeness of ancient Incan or Aztec gods, set atop a large handcrafted wooden board measuring 17-1/2 inches by 17-1/2 inches by 1-3/4 inches tall unfolded flat. Piece sizes range from 2-1/2-inch pawns to a 4-5/8-inch queen, with the king measuring 4 inches tall on a 1-5/8 by 1-1/8 inch base. Reflecting its long history of past play, the set shows authentic vintage character and normal wear, including minor chippings across the onyx pieces. Specifically, the white rook has a small reattached crown-end piece, one black pawn has a small front section missing, and the wooden board displays surface wear lines from years of strategy gaming. This remain a highly desirable vintage display piece and collectible for gaming enthusiasts.
