Sarreguemines Depose Antique Covered Entree Dish with Gold Peacock Decor

This is an amazing lidded entree dish in white porcelain featuring elegant gold accents and a rare peacock feathers design. Produced by Sarreguemines Depose in France between 1897 and 1900 this collectible oval dish showcases fine Art Nouveau craftsmanship. The lid is specifically designed with two small venting holes which allowed steam to escape so that entrees or vegetables would stay warm without becoming soggy from condensation. This specific size and shape was traditionally used for serving the first cooked course of a formal meal. The piece features a stylized handle on the lid and delicate gold trim along the scalloped edges. This plate serving storage bowl measures 9.5 inches long and stands approximately 3.5 inches high including the lid. The item is fully intact with natural crazing present which is consistent with its age but remains in good antique pre-owned item.
