Description

This is a rare and authentic antique leather postcard postmarked November 1 1907 from Carbondale Colorado. The front displays a charming hand colored lobster illustration accompanied by the humorous pyrography phrase Why dont you write. It is crafted from soft deer hide using a traditional fire writing technique to burn the design into the surface. The postcard measures approximately 5\ 1/2'' \times 3\ 1/2'' in size. It was originally mailed to Mrs Mabel Hyde in Florence Colorado and features a standard one cent postage stamp from the period which carries no specific philatelic value. These leather cards were a unique fad in the early 20th century but were banned by the postal service in 1907 due to their tendency to jam sorting machines. This is a pre owned vintage item with expected light storage wear on the leather.
