Description

An extraordinary masterpiece for collectors of American folk art and primitive wood carvings, this rare antique turtle sculpture was crafted in 1890s North America in the traditional Appalachian whittling style. Handcrafted from a single solid block of dense old-growth hardwood timber, this piece highlights the expressive genius of late 19th-century folk artistry with hand-adzed facets, deeply scored carapace scute lines, and hand-incised concentric circle eyes. The sculpture measures 10-1/4 inches long by 4-1/4 inches wide by 3-1/4 inches tall and features a distinctive elongated snout and a rich tobacco-brown patina developed over a century of handling. Pre-owned antique piece sold as-is in sturdy monolithic condition, showing natural seasoning checks, drying cracks, and authentic hand-tool facets that confirm its old-world craftsmanship. Antique collectible sold as-is. Please ask questions before purchase.
